An annual food drive campaign in Bergen County, led by the Office of Food Security in collaboration with the Run for Hope Foundation and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Men’s Cornerstone group, aims to combat hunger and food insecurity. Taking place from May 18 to May 25, this Week of Action initiative focuses on supporting local food pantries across the county. The event underscores the importance of community partnerships between government, nonprofit organizations, and residents to address critical needs within the region.
Community Partnerships Fuel Fight Against Hunger
In a vibrant display of solidarity, Bergen County is once again stepping up to alleviate food insecurity through its Week of Action Food Drive. This year’s drive kicks off on May 18 and concludes on May 25, mobilizing individuals and organizations alike to contribute to the cause. Spearheaded by the Bergen County Office of Food Security, the effort has garnered support from the Run for Hope Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to aiding first responders, veterans, military families, and other charitable causes.
This year marks a significant expansion in outreach, thanks to the involvement of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Men’s Cornerstone group in Ridgewood. Their leadership has enhanced local engagement and facilitated broader collection efforts. Donation sites are conveniently located throughout the county, including Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, Ridgewood Village Hall, Ridgewood YMCA, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and Temple Israel in Ridgewood. Non-perishable food items and toiletries can also be dropped off at 1 Bergen County Plaza during regular business hours.
Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing hunger, while Commissioner Tracy Silna Zur highlighted the profound impact even small contributions can have on someone’s life. Deborah Visconi, president and CEO of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, noted that food insecurity directly affects health outcomes, making this initiative an essential component of their mission to promote community well-being.
