Variety has announced the promotion of Emily Longeretta to the position of Director of Features for its esteemed Focus editorial department. This advancement underscores Longeretta's significant contributions and leadership within the publication's dynamic content landscape.
In her enhanced role, Longeretta will be at the helm of all feature articles and new business development efforts for the Focus division. This expansive portfolio includes a diverse array of topics such as sponsored editorial content, comprehensive festival reporting, in-depth FYC (For Your Consideration) coverage, influential impact lists, lifestyle pieces, travel narratives, industry anniversary commemorations, significant milestones, and explorations of pop culture. She will work in close partnership with Carole Horst, the Deputy Editor of Focus, a long-standing and respected member of the Variety team. Longeretta’s reporting structure will place her directly under the supervision of Ramin Setoodeh, Variety’s Co-President and Co-Editor-in-Chief, and Cynthia Littleton, also a Co-Editor-in-Chief, reflecting the strategic importance of her new responsibilities.
Longeretta's journey at Variety began in January 2022 as a senior TV features editor, following a successful four-year tenure at Us Weekly, where she advanced to senior entertainment editor. Her expertise and dedication quickly led to expanded responsibilities at Variety, particularly in overseeing television-related FYC content and a variety of other features. She has successfully managed the production of 14 Extra Editions annually during Emmy season, alongside other prominent editorial franchises like the Reality TV Impact Report, Women of Reality, and the TV Producers Impact Report. Beyond her editorial duties, Longeretta co-hosts Variety’s “Awards Circuit” podcast, where she offers insightful analysis of the film and television awards race and its contenders. Her presence extends to moderating discussions at national festivals and appearing as a commentator on entertainment news and trends across various local and national media platforms, including a regular weekly segment on CBS Los Angeles (KCAL-TV).
